Hey, mum - here’s how to maximise your ‘me time’

Mum life is like 1,000 jobs rolled into one.

You’re a caretaker, a stylist, a chef, a cleaner, a counsellor—the list goes on.

For new mums settling into their new role, alone time tends to dwindle.

Taking time for yourself

You don’t need to apologise or feel guilty for taking some time out.

Embrace the opportunity to take care of yourself, to breathe, to give your body and mind a little TLC.

In fact, to function as a happy and healthy human being, alone time is crucial.

Bonus—when your friends see you taking time out for yourself, they’ll feel inspired to do the same. So you won’t be helping only yourself—but everyone in your circle, too.

Do what you love

Whether alone or in a group, take some time each day to do something you love.

It doesn’t have to be a big thing. You could:

  • Go for a run.
  • Indulge in a warm bath.
  • Watch your favourite movie.
  • Schedule a shopping trip.
  • Enjoy a nap.
  • Pick up a new book.
  • Lather up and lay in the sun.
  • Follow a yoga or workout video.
  • Do some baking.
  • Draw a picture.
  • Book a lunch date with the girls.
  • Make a playlist.
  • Indulge in a mani or pedi.
  • Simply do nothing.

Whatever you choose to do—make sure it’s all about you. Don’t worry about what other people expect you to do or what you feel like you should be doing. This is your time!

Make daily tasks easier

Spend less time on daily tasks, and you’ll have a little more open space in your schedule.

You could try:

  • Reducing clutter.
  • Scheduling time for cleaning.
  • Keeping your home organised.
  • Using modern organisation products and gadgets.
  • Asking family and friends for help.
  • Planning meals in advance.
  • Asking your mum friends for advice.

When searching for handy mum gadgets and products, look for versatile pieces. Nappy caddies are fantastic for keeping baby essentials all in one place—so you’re spending less time searching for bits and pieces—but you’ll want to choose a caddy that’s large enough, customisable, and easily portable.

The same goes for other parts of your house. When everything has a place, you’ll spend less time worrying, less time cleaning, and more time doing what you love.

Remember: you deserve it

Everyone needs a little me-time—and new mums are no exception. Remember, you’re an amazing mum. You deserve to take a little time off every once in a while.
